A Review from Lottie:
This game felt quite unusual. Although we didn’t finish this game on stream, it was one that we played for a number of weeks.
The general idea is that you get to be a school boy who is both bullied and a bit of a bully. You get to take part in lessons as well as many many side quests.
There were elements that were quite fun, especially when you got to leave the school grounds and ride around on a bike through the town. However I didn’t enjoy how much everyone was out to get you. (Random people would not approach a kid in town and chase them down to send them back to school in my opinion!) Will found parts of the game tedious and for once got more frustrated with the game than me, which led to the game’s disappearance from our stream.
This game was also very unfortunately not realistic relating to ‘girls.’ It was disappointing that a game of this age (2006) did not promote a positive view of girls and instead there was lots of quests relating to having the main character kiss the girls or that the girls were all desperate to kiss the character the second he showed any kindness to them. I feel this does not help teenage boys (who were likely the main audience of the game) to respect girls/women and as this is something of an ongoing issue it would be nice if the game developers had kept this in mind.
Granted there is an element that young people should be taught the difference between real life and games from a younger age than 15, however this element of the game did not enhance the game play at any point and as violence against women is so prevalent it is maybe not sensible to be instilling the values that girls owe physical /romantic action when boys are nice to them
Who knows if we will ever go back to this game.
